Remedial Massage Sydney CBD
Remedial massage is the foundation of every Active Performance Therapy session. Our Diploma of Remedial Massage qualified therapists assess how you move, then use deep tissue, trigger point and myofascial techniques to release the muscles driving your pain.
What remedial massage at APC involves
Every appointment begins with an assessment by one of our Master Practitioners. We look at posture, movement and the areas that are sore or restricted, then decide which techniques will make the biggest difference that day. Remedial massage is almost always part of that plan, and it is often combined with dry needling, cupping or red light therapy in the same session.
Techniques we use include deep tissue work, trigger point release, myofascial stripping and assisted stretching. Pressure is adjusted to you. Tell your therapist at any point if you would like it firmer or lighter.
Who it suits
Most of our clients are Sydney CBD office workers with neck, shoulder and lower back tension, people training for sport or at the gym who want to recover faster, and people with long-standing pain that has not responded to rest alone. We also treat clients throughout pregnancy, athletes before and after events (see sports massage), and clients aged 16 and over. If you are unsure whether remedial massage is right for your problem, book an initial appointment and we will assess you first.
After your session
You may feel some tenderness for a day or so after deeper work. Drinking water, gentle movement and the stretches or exercises your therapist gives you will help. Your practitioner will recommend how often to come back based on your assessment rather than a fixed schedule.

Remedial Massage FAQs
Is remedial massage different from a relaxation massage?
Yes. Remedial massage starts with an assessment and targets the muscles and fascia behind a specific problem, using firmer deep tissue, trigger point and myofascial techniques. The aim is to change how you move and feel, not only to relax.
How long is a remedial massage appointment?
Your first visit is a 60 minute initial appointment ($160) that includes assessment and treatment. Follow-up appointments are 45, 60 or 90 minutes, from $140.
Is remedial massage safe during pregnancy?
Yes, with the right adjustments. We treat clients from the first trimester through to the final weeks, adapting positioning, pressure and technique to your stage. Tell us you are pregnant when you book, and check with your GP or midwife first if your pregnancy is considered high risk.
Can I claim remedial massage on my health fund?
Yes, with most funds. Remedial massage is covered under extras with most Australian health funds, and we have HICAPS in clinic so you can claim on the spot and pay only the gap. Rebates vary by fund and level of cover; we also provide itemised receipts for manual claims. See our health fund rebates page for the list of funds.
