Personal Training Sydney CBD

Your personal trainer at Active Performance Clinic is the same therapist who treats you, so your program is built around what the assessment found: the weak links, the stiff joints and the movement patterns that keep bringing pain back. Sessions are one-on-one, 45 or 60 minutes, at our Market Street clinic.

Client training with suspension straps during a personal training session at Active Performance Clinic

A personal trainer in Sydney CBD who is also your therapist

Most personal training starts with a goal and a template. Ours starts with the assessment every client gets at the clinic: how you move, where you are stiff, which muscles switch on late and which do too much. The program is written to close those gaps. For a desk worker with recurring neck pain that might mean thoracic mobility, scapular control and the first steps of upper body strength. For a runner with hip pain it might be glute strength, single-leg stability and a sensible return to distance.

What a session with your personal trainer looks like

Sessions are one-on-one, 45 or 60 minutes, at our clinic on Market Street, a 5-minute walk from Town Hall Station. Each one begins with a quick check of how you have pulled up since last time, then coached work on the exercises in your program, with technique corrected closely so the right muscles do the work. Because your trainer is also a remedial massage therapist, a muscle that will not let go can be released on the spot rather than becoming the reason you skip the exercise. You leave with an updated home program and a clear idea of what to do before the next session.

Where it fits in Active Performance Therapy

Active Performance Therapy moves in three stages: direct symptom relief, supervised training and self-care solutions. Personal training is the supervised training stage done properly, with enough time to build real strength rather than the few minutes available at the end of a treatment. Clients often alternate treatment and training sessions, then taper the treatment as the training takes over. Exercise therapy describes the exercise prescription that runs through every plan; personal training is the dedicated time to do it under supervision.

How to book

Personal training is booked by phone or email rather than through the online calendar. Call +61 416 533 542 or email ben@activeperformanceclinic.com.au with the days and times that suit you. If you are new to the clinic, we recommend a Consultation and Initial Treatment first so your program starts from an assessment; existing clients can simply ask their therapist to set up a block of sessions.

Personal Training FAQs

How is this different from a gym personal trainer?

Your trainer is also your therapist. They know your history, have assessed how you move and can feel which muscles are doing the work. If something tightens up during a session it can be treated in the same visit rather than pushed through.

How much does a personal trainer cost in Sydney CBD?

Sessions are 45 or 60 minutes and cost the same whichever therapist you train with. Personal training is booked by phone or email rather than through the online calendar, so call +61 416 533 542 or email ben@activeperformanceclinic.com.au for current rates and times.

Who will be my personal trainer?

Ben Duong and Darren Hogan, both of whom hold Certificate IV in Personal Training alongside their Diploma of Remedial Massage, with decades of coaching between them. Tell us when you book if you have a preference.

Do I need to be fit, or injured, to start?

Neither. Programs start from where you are, whether that is a first return to exercise, a plateau in your running or a niggle you want to train around. If you have not been assessed by us before, we recommend starting with a Consultation and Initial Treatment so the program is built on a proper assessment.

Can I combine personal training with massage?

Yes, and many clients alternate: a treatment one week, a training session the next, with the gap between treatments growing as strength improves. Massage and red light therapy help recovery on heavier training weeks.
